What do you hear yourself repeating in your mind more often,” I can’t or I can?” I can’t is a self-limiting belief that keeps you from being all that you can.
Perhaps you have failed in some area of your life dozens of times and instead of believing that you can one day succeed; you instead protect yourself from any further pain by falsely believing that you can’t.
What are some examples of what we say and believe about situations in our lives that can hinder our progress:
- I can’t get healthy.
- I can’t lose weight.
- I can’t be successful.
- I can’t take care of myself.
- I can’t be sociable.
- I cant’t stop drinking.
- I can’t stop worrying.
- I can’t stop being stressed.
As you can see from the list above when you believe you can’t do something you feel helpless and defeated. Wen you believe that you can eventually succeed in an area in your life, you feel empowered and hopeful.
What would your life look like if you took, “I can’t” out of your vocabulary?
Believing that you will never be able to be any different releases toxic emotions such as frustration, depression, and stress.
You may not be able to face all your fears all at once but having the hope that you can and will face them can bring a renewed sense of hope.
Try reframing your words to get I can’t out of your vocabulary. Try for example instead of saying,” I can’t travel,” to “I choose not to travel at this time.” What a difference it makes when you replace can’t with chose. Sometimes changing your lifestyle or habits is not possible right now, but you can change your perception.
