From the Desk of Your Empowerment Life Coach: Ever Feel Like You Are Waiting For Someone Else to Encourage You?

What if I told you that you can encourage yourself, and that there are powerful, practical tools within reach to encourage your own heart.

Let's be honest.  There are moments, those quiet times, maybe even those tough seasons, where we feel a little… alone in the struggle. Maybe the encouragement we usually rely on isn't readily available, or maybe we just need that extra boost from within. That's where learning to encourage ourselves in the Lord becomes so incredibly vital.

You know, I've been reading through the Psalms lately, and it strikes me how often David, this man after God's own heart, had to encourage his own soul. Think about Psalm 42:5: "Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God." He's literally talking to himself,1 reminding himself where his hope lies.

And that's the first key, isn't it? Talk to yourself… truthfully, but with truth. When those negative thoughts creep in – "I'm not good enough," "Things will never get better," "God has forgotten me" – we need to actively counter them with God's Word. Speak His promises out loud. Remind yourself of His faithfulness in the past. Declare who He says you are: loved, forgiven, chosen, His child.

Secondly, immerse yourself in His presence. This might look different for everyone. For me, it's spending time in prayer, even if it's just a few minutes of quiet conversation with God. It's reading Scripture, not just as a duty, but as a love letter from my Father. It's listening to worship music that lifts my spirit and reminds me of His sovereignty. When we intentionally draw near to Him, His peace and strength naturally begin to fill us.

Another powerful way to encourage yourself is to remember God's victories in your life. Think back to those times when He showed up in big ways, those moments where you knew it was only His hand at work. Write them down if it helps! Creating a sort of "God's faithfulness journal" can be an incredible source of encouragement when you're facing new challenges. It's like saying, "He did it then, and I trust He can do it again."

And finally, be kind and compassionate to yourself. We often hold ourselves to such high standards, forgetting that we're all a work in progress. Extend the same grace to yourself that God so freely gives to us. Acknowledge your feelings, but don't let them dictate your truth. Rest when you need to, celebrate small victories, and remember that God's love for you is constant, regardless of your circumstances.

So, today, I want to encourage you to take these steps. Start small if you need to. Find those verses that speak directly to your heart. Create those moments of connection with God. Remember His faithfulness. And be gentle with yourself. Because you are loved, you are seen, and you are never truly alone.
