A Word of Encouragement for the Battle-Weary
The enemy has been relentless in his pursuit, but now it is time for you to become ruthless in your faith. The secret place is your sanctuary—a divine retreat where you can find refreshment from the adversaries that surround you and healing for your battle-weary soul. In this sacred space, the Lord Himself promises to restore and refresh you.
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
— Psalm 91:1
Signs You Have Found the Secret Place
- The “Heat” Dies Down: The urgency of your problems starts to feel less “burning.”You will have a peace that you did not have before, even if your problems are still looming.
- Perspective Shifts: You realize that while your problems are big, God is bigger. You begin to thank God before you see any “physical shifts” yet. You begin to praise God for who He is, and focus on praise rather than the solutions to your problems.
- Internal Quiet: You find a sense of safety that doesn’t depend on your bank account, your health, your status, or other people. You feel secure in the Lord and not outward circumstances.
Get quiet. Get still. Wait.
Don’t be in a hurry or a rush while you are in your secret place.
Your mind will be renewed here.
Your soul will be refreshed here.
Your joy will be restored here.
Your peace will be refilled here.
Slow down. Rest your mind, even if just for a few hours.
You are going a new way. The enemy is resisting this new way.
As you get in the secret place, you will see that the new way is the better way.
In the secret place, you can step away from the “noise” of the world, and performative religious duties.
In the secret place you can take your “mask” off. You can be you here! Jesus desires an authentic relationship with you over religious performance.
The secret place is a refuge where you can exchange chaos, stress, worry, anxiety for His perfect peace.
You need time to get into the secret place. Allow yourself at least 10 minutes to get yourself unsettled and free from distractions. Clear your mind of any clutter, and write down whatever to-do lists that come to your mind.
Dwelling in the secret place allows your nervous system to rest. As you practice God’s presence, your soul begins to feel truly rested and at peace, which in turn helps regulate physical stress.
Prayer: “Lord, I choose to turn away from the noise right now. I hide myself in You. You are my refuge and my secret place. Let Your peace govern my heart today.” In the mighty name of Jesus, amen.
