In a world that measures your worth by your “hustle” and your output, it’s easy to feel like you’re constantly running on empty. We often treat rest as a reward we have to earn, rather than a gift we’ve already been given.
This week, take heart in the invitation found in Matthew 11:28:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Notice that Jesus doesn’t say, “Come to me once you’ve finished your to-do list,” or “Come to me when you’ve got your life together.” He invites you exactly as you are—weary, messy, and tired.
A Few Truths to Carry With You:
- Grace is Not a Wage: You don’t have to work for God’s favor; you already have it.
- Your Value is Fixed: You are loved because of whose you are, not because of what you do.
- Peace is a Person: When the week feels chaotic, peace isn’t found in a change of circumstances, but in a connection with the Creator.
The Challenge:
Identify one “burden” you’ve been carrying alone—whether it’s a worry about work, a strained relationship, or self-criticism. In prayer tonight, consciously “hand it over” and ask for the peace that surpasses understanding to take its place.
You don’t have to carry the weight of the world; that’s a job that’s already been taken.
