You know it’s time to come out of your cave, or your hiding place. The problem is you don’t know what else to do. You have been hiding in your cave for so long that it has become comfortable to you.

You originally went into your cave to rest and have a safe space from the devastating blows that life hit you with. You never meant to stay as long as you did, but you found solace and comfort away from facing the pain. The Lord did a deep work in your time in your cave, but that time has come to an end. That is not to say that you can never have retreat times, you can. However, they will be for a few hours or maybe a day or two, not years. Instead of staying in the cave, you will go only when you need times of refreshment with the Lord.

It’s time to come out of your cave, one step at a time. Not one giant leap in the deep end, but through small, practical steps that will eventually lead into larger steps. You must gain your confidence back through small steps first.

Where the Holy Spirit leads you, He will guide you. Don’t try and figure out your next steps. Wait on the Lord to give you instructions. You may have to wait in stillness, don’t jump ahead because you don’t know what to do or the Lord is not acting fast enough. Wait patiently, for He will guide you step by step out.

You are being released from the trap that the cave has become to you. The cave was never meant to be your permanent home. Forgive yourself that you stayed as long as you did. Nothing will be wasted. You have learned so much during your time in your cave that will be valuable now to assist others out of their cave.

Don’t focus on what you still don’t feel comfortable with coming out of the cave, but focus on what you have been able to do. Celebrate your small victories.
